Elementor — the de facto standard
Elementor democratized no-code WordPress. Over 5 million active sites, an enormous ecosystem of templates and add-ons (Elementor Pro, Crocoblock, etc.). Approachable drag-and-drop UI, gentle learning curve, huge community.
Bricks Builder — the perf-focused challenger
Bricks is a theme-builder (so not a separate plugin) launched in 2021 with one obsession: stay light. Generated HTML is clean, CSS minimal, no jQuery overlay, no cache files to manage. Lifetime license, no subscription, and a technically more modern product.
The performance verdict
Measurements show Bricks weighs significantly less than Elementor — fewer scripts loaded on the front, fewer SQL queries, cleaner HTML. Elementor has improved (Optimized DOM Output, Eicons removal, etc.) but carries a heavier legacy. If you measure the delta on the same site, the gap shows clearly on the Footprint Score grade. The debate isn't 'which is faster' — Bricks wins — but 'is the gap worth the migration cost'.
Pick Elementor if
You already run Elementor and migration is expensive, or you manage clients who edit their own content (Elementor is easier for beginners). You rely on Elementor Pro templates or ecosystem add-ons (Crocoblock, Essential Addons) that are central to your workflow.

You are starting a new site, or you are willing to rebuild. You are a developer or a demanding integrator: you want clean HTML, a fast site by default, and the option to add code without hacks. The licensing model (one-time purchase, no subscription) also draws agencies in.

Run only one page builder per site. Mixing Elementor with Bricks (or Divi, Beaver, etc.) doubles the scripts and assets loaded.
Disable unused widgets. Elementor loads all of them by default; Experiments → Optimized DOM Output and disabling the widgets you do not use roughly halves the front load.
Be wary of free 'all-in-one' template kits. They often bundle heavy add-ons (sliders, animations) you do not need.
Measure page by page. A page builder can be very light on the home page and disastrous on a landing page with 30 sections. The WP Footprint scan isolates the per-page impact.
